O.K gentlemen... here's a tip for a cheap date. (You can thank me later.)
The Hudson River Park's River flicks is nothing short of the perfect summer night hangout. With the sun setting and a large variety of different movies playing on different nights, this event is suitable for mostly anyone, whether it's a group looking for something to do or just a couple looking for a romantic night out. And wait.....free popcorn, this of course, sold it for me.

Take a second, close your eyes, and envision Park Avenue closed from downtown all the way up to Central Park. Got it? Good. Now, think of this whole strip opened to people, bikers, bands, kids, vendors, and so on....to do ...well relatively anything. That's right, no mass herds of screeching New York City taxis, pissed off drivers or blind bus drivers. Just people. Ok, now open your eyes, grab your calendar and note that for three consecutive Saturdays in August (starting August 9th), this will take place. It's an initiative the city is taking part of for its "Going Green" campaign to persuade people into using simple means of transportation.

While drive-in movies and outdoor cinemas might seem like a thing of the past, Bryant Park is bringing it all back with its Summer Film Festival....and when I say ALL back ...I mean just that. The festival is exhibiting films from as early as the mid-thirties to up around the late seventies. Films include DR. NO (the first James Bond film...Sean Connery...ring any bells? C'mon guys, really, it's a classic) and Superman. Anyway, I think it can turn out to be something different to do or a cheap romantic date... people, it's free. Check out the schedule
Here.

This is awesome. City Parks is hosting a variety of free concerts around the city. And yyeesssss, this includes all five boroughs. Performers include KRS-ONE, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, The Chi Lites, Willie Colon, and much more.... Check out the schedule of performances and their locations

O.K...so this place is amazing.
The Nuyorican Poets Cafe is a cozy but hip little brownstone hangout spot in Alphabet City. Though the cafe is famous for its Friday night Poetry Slams and Wednesday night Open Mics, it's home to many Jazz, Latin jazz, Hip Hop, and Blues sounding bands and neighborhood artists. The prices are cheap..ranging from $5- 15, depending on the artist and the night. But don't let the name fool you. This place is by no means a cafe. They don't have coffee, nor do they serve those miniature biscotti's or lovely little pastries we've all come to love. It's mostly beer and alcohol, but entrance is open to all ages. Check out the link for a calender of events.
Monday through Friday from 12 to 2 pm and showcases a different guitarist almost everyday. I was fortunate enough to see Joe Taylor perform some of his own songs, as well as classics such as Come Together by The Beatles and More Than A Feeling by Boston. My overall review of the event is that it's a beautiful place to sit down enjoy the scenery and listen to the wonderful tones that come out of a guitar. It is situated right in front of a picnic area, so if you want you can come have lunch with friends, enjoy
some live music and get back to your regular lives . It ends July 31st SO CHECK IT OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
